Food supplement with Vitamin C and pomegranate bioflavonoids.
The human body is unable to synthesize Vitamin C, that is why it is of high importance to take it from external sources. Probably this is the most widely used vitamin nowadays. Also it has Hungarian relations that Albert Szent-Györgyi was awarded the Nobel prize in 1937 for investigating the effects of Vitamin C. The well-known effect of this vitamin, that it contributes to the normal function of the immune system, other positive effects could be listed through pages, but only a few of the highlighted without limitation:
In the cells mitochondria during the formation of ATP free radicals form in a natural way, for example peroxide- and superoxide radicals. Our body eliminates these with its own antioxidants. However in certain situations (for example stress, illness) the number of free radicals increases, and the body cannot produce enough antioxidants. Vitamin C has antioxidant effect, it binds harmful free radicals, preventing the oxidation and the damage of cells.
- contributes to normal collagen formation and through this:
- to the normal function of bones
- to the normal function of cartilage
- to the normal function of skin
- to the normal function of teeth
- has a role in normal energy-yielding metabolism
The discovery of bioflavonoids is also related to Szent-Györgyi. He discovered them in 1938, and at first he named them Vitamin P, because he found that these compounds increase the permeability of blood vessels. Bioflavonoids can be found in most fruits and vegetables. These compounds are responsible for the colour of plants and with this they help to attract the necessary insects for pollination.
Pomegranate (Punica granatum) is a fairly well-known fruit and food. Its flesh and juice are often used for poultry dishes and fruit salads. It is mentioned in the Bible, and also appears in the Quran, as one of the ?good thing created by God?.In the Persian culture, it is the symbol of fertility. Pomegranate contains high amount of flavonoids and its vitamin C content is significant too.
